It Takes Attitude…

I was going to write about my favorite Christmas but ran across this photo and it changed my mind… because it made me smile and I wanted to share this story with you all.

BTG mohawk back This is my baby brother. Mom told Walter (Bro) to take Bennett to the barber shop and get him a haircut so he would look nice for his birthday.

BTG with mohawk Walter told the barber to give Ben a mohawk.  I don’t know if Ben told Bro he wanted one or if Bro just told the barber to give him a mohawk.   But this is how Bro and Ben walked home.  Mom about stroked out.  But, dang, he was so cute that she forgave Walter.

BTG and teddy bear 1953 What’s not to love with a kid with a mohawk and a BIG teddy bear? Check out the boots, too.

BTG in Indian Drag Then I got in on the action… our sis, Sue, had a glorious array of neck scarves that were the rage in the early Fifties.  Ben and I decided that he had a mohawk so he ought to be dressed up like an Indian and who better to help him than moi? If you click the pic you can see our sister standing behind the chair.  She was so mad at us for getting in her stuff,  but she still had a bit of a smile trying to peek out.

Now you may ask, “What’s the deal with it taking attitude?”  Bro and I were talking about it when we were looking at these as he was scanning these photos and he’s the one that said, “You know it takes attitude to wear a mohawk.”  And this was the particular photo that brought about that comment:

BTG mohawk attitude. (2) The boy had the stuff to pull it off.  Check out the suit coat and the jive attitude. Ben, Bro and I still love this photo and as far as we are concerned even now with you being 61 you could still pull off a mohawk.  You still have what it takes.

Love you, Baby Bro, and I’ll see you and all your family  for Christmas.

Bro-hawk...

Week before last Bro and I went into Norman to get our hair trimmed up for THE WEDDING... I had gotten mine trimmed up and shaped up a bit and it was Bro's turn... He had evidently talked to the guy that gives us our cuts while I took a bathroom break. Charles had the clippers out and hair was falling in the floor and Bro was grinning like a 'possum... Then I watched and realized why he was grinning...

To be real honest, I had thought about me getting a faux hawk and Bro and I had talked about it but I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to disguise it well enough at the wedding... I was feeling a bit cantankerous but had finally settled down enough to maintain propriety for the wedding and what did my brother do???

Stole my thunder, he did. But I'm still gonna do it.

Maybe for my 65th birthday along with my tattoo...

But on this Sunday, Bro, this one's for you... and for every 69 year old that has enough hair and enough enjoyment of life to 'go for it'!

Corn And Ever So Much More…

I told you to expect surprise corn posts… Lookie here!

corn Monday 8.24.09 002 corn Monday 8.24.09 003

corn Monday 8.24.09 004 corn Monday 8.24.09 005  This is just two days after the first silks showed up.  That plant now has 2 ears, then top right and bottom left each have one and the fourth plant on the bottom right hasn’t shown it’s silks yet but it is identifiable as an ear.  This is sooo cool.

And for you all that are tired of corn… how about blanket flowers…

My Bro May Be Older Than Me…

But, dang, he has great eyes!  I think all three of my brothers are far sighted.  I’m so nearsighted I put my glasses on as soon as I get up and don’t take them off, except to wipe the sweat off my face, until I go to bed at night.

Me and Bro I tried to crop the photo in closer, but it is one off my old laptop and the windows photo program won’t do it for me.  And I haven’t installed anything else to try…

But back to my story.  My middle brother and I have a lot in common besides our parents.  We both love flowers. Bro spotted a flower yesterday on a vine growing up a dead tree out back.

passion flower 001 If I knew how to draw an arrow I’d point to the white flowers in the middle of the photo.  The dead tree that the vine with the flowers was growing up into is behind the back fence and there is poison ivy all around.  He is highly allergic and I told him that I’d put on my old jeans and boots and weedeat my way in to locate the base of the vine and clear out around it to possibly dig it  up and replant it where it would be safer to enjoy  and I was going to do that tomorrow.

egret flower Bro thought it my be an egret flower.  These egret flowers look somewhat like their name and Bro had purchased them for me this past spring.  I planted them but as to date we’ve not even seen a sign of them.

I thought it was a passion flower or passiflora, a passion vine. In searching for information I found out that another common name for passion flowers is Maypops.

passion flowerThere are passifloras in many colors.  They are an absolutely beautiful flower and I’ve tried once before to try to raise one when we lived farther north in Bartlesville, OK, and didn’t have any luck.

My Bro is, if nothing else, not afraid to admit when he’s wrong…at least to me… and I’d be the first to say that about flowers he is rarely wrong.  He went out to smoke late this afternoon and came back in and handed me this flower…passion flower 8.13.09 002  with a big smile, ‘cause he knew I was right and he also knew that as far as plants and flowers I’m not often right.  And that it was more important to him to figure out what the flower was rather than to be right. He spotted another vine that wasn’t so deep into the brushy, poison ivy laden area, broke off a piece of vine with a bloom on it and brought it in to me.

I love my Bro.

Oh, You All Are Going To Hate Me...

Some days there are things that happen that you just have to share... Spread the joy, as it were. Actually, it's my Bro that you all can hate for this one. We were talking about something on t.v., I don't remember what about, and evidently it plucked a chord in Bro's head and he started singing... (if songs get stuck in your head, stop reading NOW)

{( WARNING!! WARNING!! STOP NOW!!)}

"Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight?". Let me tell you that was stuck in my head for all the rest of that day and even into the night. I woke up with my 4:30 bladder attack and immediately it started playing...

"Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight?
If your mother says don't chew it, do you swallow it for spite?
And you catch it on your tonsils and you heave it left and right,
Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost over night?"

So I thought maybe it's like a cold. If you share it, it goes away. If I'd learned how to download music I'd of downloaded it for you all, but you were saved by my ignorance on that front.

Anybody have a catchy tune that sticks in their head for a bit if they hear it? Feel free to share. I am expecting paybacks on this one.
