A Question For You...

Do you ever run across old photos of relatives and hope to goodness that you don't look like them?

I mean, nothing personal, and maybe it's because she obviously has lost her teeth, but my great grandmother, Mary Venable, is not my most wonderful example of raving beauty. I didn't know her. She was my granddaddy's mother. As sweet and kind as he was, she must have been a good person...

But I'm glad I don't take after her. I figure I'm older now than she was when this picture was taken and I see no similarity.

My mom always taught us to count our blessings. I'm counting this as one.

Well she does look as if you had a rough life. But those wrinkles do tell a great story I bet! When are we going to start planning these pictures? How about in the next couple weeks???

Love the old old pics... they had to sit still for so long they never smiled but She has kind eyes :)

maybe she was really beautiful but just not that photogenic! i love old pictures, though, no matter what people looked like - imagining their lives and whatnot.

I have pictures like that and I can definitely relate.
Some of the men in my old pictures really look mean or crazy. I can't decide which it is.

Yes, I have family photos like that too. I think it comes from how hard they had to work.Their surroundings and lack of the medical information we have now. The differences are unbelievable from generation to generation. Kids born now come out as smart as I was in first grade...LOL

I bet she was a great person, with a great character. I look back at my older generations and really would love to have known them and to live a day with them just to see how they lived, what they went through and to know them personally. (If only for a day!)

No you don't look like her. I bet her life was hard-and you mentioned her teeth-not many folks got to the dentist in those days.

I love old pictures. And yes, we have a few old photos of relatives that make me glad I live now instead of then. They look like life was hard.

I love old pics. It must have been so hard back then, no modern appliances, no electricity, running water, or crest tooth paste!! I would love to live just 1day with them. No, you do not look like her, but she has kind eyes. I am so glad I live now, instead of back then.

God Bless~

Were the 'good old days'? A time when women had to work their fingers to the bone - on the farm and in the home, no dental treatment, probably not even a toothbrush, no make up and no smiling for the camera! Sometimes I want to go back to the simpler days, but when I see a photo like this, I realize that I am well off right here at this time and place.
