Tiny Visitors…

And a flower show.  Bees and butterflies and an occasional frog have all been almost as busy as me.  I decided that today is a good day to show you a few photos.

sunflower 019 In this picture of a cone flower there are two different types of bees and a butterfly.

sunflower 018 I think I’ll call this one butterfly on coneflower with branches…

June end 09 012 This is a native clematis. I’d not seen one like this so I ordered it last fall and it has done well.  The tiny bell-shaped flowers are about the size of my thumb.

2 butterflies and a bee Two butterflies and a bee.  My sunflowers have brought a myriad of callers.

the yard early July 09 004 How could anyone look at this ruffledy pink daylily and not smile.

Wash Day 002 This is new to the garden this year.  It’s a hibiscus called “Texas Star".  It’s not a blooming marijuana despite the look of the leaves.

Wash Day 005 Another worker.

Wash Day 007Bro called me out on the back porch a couple of nights ago.  This little guy was hanging out on the handle of the swiffer sweeper under the porch light.

Wash Day 006Heap good hunting ground. The light brought in the moths and bugs and he had his own private buffet.

7.16.09 005 Ahhhh, morning glories.

That’s all the eye candy for today.  We had a storm front blow through last evening, clear up for a couple of hours, then built up and rained for several hours.  Which means I don’t have to water today which is good because I’m hurting from the barometric changes.  The front broke the triple digit heat we’ve had  and we are only going to be in the low 90’s for the next week or so.  More like normal temperatures.  Well worth any pain I’m dealing with today.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  I’ll be posting the corn report at some point but for today I’m just going to go out and smell the rain fresh air and watch some of the British Open and I might even take a nap.

Lady Bugs And Jelly Beans...

I stand before you, not behind you, to address you, not undress you, on a subject I know nothing about...

I find it so strange and fascinating that I can remember silly things like the above from my childhood and I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. I guess I started filling my brain with useless nonsense at a young age and now it is almost full and today things get shoved to the nooks and crannies in the hinterland of my gray matter, sometimes never to be found again.

It's not really a bother most of the time, but sometimes I get real aggravated with not being able to remember, and then Carol, or Bro, will say something wonderful like "I don't know why it bothers you. You've always been absent-minded." Well, absent-minded is one thing. I could stop and focus and get what I wanted to know pulled back up and be a happy camper.

And how many times have I gotten up to go do something and by the time I walk into the next room I can't remember what I was going to do and I have to go back to where I started and the light bulb comes on and it's an "Oh, yeah" moment? I have to just shake my head and either laugh or groan depending on the day.

Can you remember looking at you folks or your older relatives when you were younger and laughing to yourselves and thinking "I'm never gonna be like that. Geez, they need a keeper to go to the bathroom." and now you do also? Well, maybe not you, but I?

I'll leave you today with one more little diddy that I learned a way, way long ago, like 60 years ago, and any of you younger folks can contemplate and enjoy that I need a keeper, but you never will....

Roses on my shoulders, slippers on my feet. I'm my daddy's darlin'. Don't you think I'm sweet?

And when I finished it I would always say, "Uh huh!"

Have a good one today.
