It's Hotter Than H.E. Double Hockey Sticks...

It seems like only yesterday we, as in me, myself and I, were fretting because we had another wet, cool spring that stayed that way longer than usual. This week the predictions are for 100 degree + weather all week long. I have said many times that I am not an early riser. I don't enjoy getting up at God-thirty in the morning and sipping my Diet Pepsi in quiet solitude and watching the sun rise. The only times that I have willingly watched the sun rise was back in the olden days when I stayed up all night. Doing whatever I did all night... The good thing about losing your memory is X-ing out the wild child days.

As I told you in my post on Father's Day the two times I heard my father swear was at me and because of me and those incidents were both related to not getting up and being ready to go to school. My sweet little mom would ask me if she needed to get the washcloth when she would wake me for the second, third or umpteenth time. She was a very smart woman. She wouldn't pour a glass of water on me but she would, and did, wet down a washcloth, pull back the covers and slap that puppy on my tummy... once. That was all it took. After the first time she would ask me if she needed to get it and I would be on my feet... "No, ma'am! I'm up."

The first semester that I went away to college I was assigned a roommate. I didn't think anything about it because I can get along pretty well with most anybody. That changed the first time she woke me up at 6 freakin' 30 in the morning to ask me if I wanted to pray with her. Bless her Southern Baptist heart... I kind of... sort of maybe implied if she woke me up again at that time in the morning she just might be looking at talking to Jesus in person. Don't get me wrong I don't have anything against prayer, in fact I pray often. Just not at 6:30 in the morning except maybe to ask the good Lord to help me, to keep me from killing somebody.

But I digress... what I wanted to tell you was that it has been so hot that when either my bladder, thank you menopause, or the dogs wake me up to go out I just pull on my shorts and go out to work in the garden or the flower beds. Yep... even if it's 6 freakin'30. I work for an hour or two or until my eyelids start to sweat. After that first burst I'll go out for 20 or 30 minutes at a time, doing a little bit of planting or weeding or moving sprinklers and/or soaker hoses around. After 3 weeks of rain every day I'm now having to water pretty much every day in some portion of the flower beds or the veggie garden.

Because is it hotter than h-e-double hockey sticks. Just thought I'd pass that little tidbit on to all of you that are having 90 degree and under weather. You lucky stiffs...

It has been hot in South Georgia, too! But with no rain. We need some rain!

I'll make a mental note to NOT wake you up early. I have issues with sleeping and can't sleep in late no matter what time I go to bed.

I'm an early riser, myself - my internal clock is set to 5:30 and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it, but I try not to do anything more strenuous than lifting the coffee cup to my lips.

Rumor has it that we may see the sun tomorrow (along with the heat and humidity) after weeks of rain. I hope we don't ever hit triple digits, though. Us northerners might actually melt.

It's hotter than blue blazes here too. But that still don't get me out of bed early.
Maybe if I'd go to bed at a decent hour, I might be able to drag myself out of be earlier.
I'm working on it.

Howdy
God love you .
I needed someone else to share this
unexpected early heat wave with :)
I cannot believe we went from a late spring to end of August overnight .
We usually get a two or three week grace period to get use to this stuff.
It is soooooooo dry and the hot searing wind is drying everything out pretty fast so I guess this is going to be "The Long Hot Summer
without Paul Newman .
When the crops burn up in the fields and theres not a lot you can do about it.
I am so thankful for air conditioning.
We lived without for many a year
but I don't think I would make it this year .
Anyway thanks for letting me whine :)

gentle hugs :)

The weather is perfect up here in Oregon. Low 70's and sunny. The downside is it takes you really hot weather to make some of the best vegetables grow-I have Okra-it will grow better for you, peppers, tomatoes, and melons. I can put these in the ground but I know I am going to have a much lower yield than you are because of our cool weather.

There does that help you feel better? ;)

It's HOT here in Arkansas too! Oh yeah, and that 3 weeks of rain--I think it passed through Oklahoma before it got here. I didn't get any of my seeds planted on time.

Helen, you are the one to have me laughing out loud today. And only a Southern Baptist would feel the need to wake Jesus up for prayer! I mean really! What in the world did that poor girl do to feel the need to repent that early?

I'm still laughing and I love God-thirty. . . I'll use it if you don't mind. . . maybe in my next sermon!

Hot here too-but not quite as bad as you've got it. Nothing like working outside to you feel like passing out from heat and sweat uh : )

I enjoyed your post about your Father.

I hate and detest early mornings, however cool it is or how pretty the sky looks - I'm always grumpy. But what really sends me balistic is when contractors tell you they'll be with you at 8.30, then turn up at 7.50, when you're still running around without much on trying to get ready. If they want to turn up at 7.50 then they should say so, and stick to it!!

I am sitting in my office with my feet jammed against the heater...cuz it's too damn cold in here!!

Not sure what you meant by put a price on what you're sending but go for it if you want!! I do want to know what it is valued at so that I have a sense of what the total of all prizes I am raffling off is.

Does that make sense? My stomach hurts so maybe I'm not clear.

If you just want to write it's value in an email that's good too.

I'm sick. I can't make these tough decisions!!

Hallie :)
Can't wait to see what you send!

Helen, this heat drives me stinkin' crazy (probably stinky crazy too, as much as I sweat while trying to keep the flowers alive). My plan - stay indoors, with a "cold one".

Normally I would have some sympathy (no I wouldn't, that's totally a lie) but it was 122 yesterday and supposed to be 124 here today.

I - my friend - am in HELL!

I always like to one-up people. But i do feel your pain! :-)

I haven't heard that line, 'hotter than 'h''e' double hockey sticks' since I was a kid! Too funny! My girlfriend's mother used to say that! It was hot here too. Hot for us anyway. I am not compaining. It's gets so cold sometimes that I love the heat! And I promise I won't wake you up early for Jesus, prayers or anything else!
