Ring Of ‘Rooms…

We’ve had a buttload  quite a bit of rain. Probably about 6.5 inches in the last week.  I went outside yesterday to take a look around and get me and the pupsters  off the couch.  I saw something out in the south part of the plantation and went to investigate… (Cue eerie music)

ring of rooms A ring of mushrooms…

Brohawk 005 What was odd to me was how they were growing in a big ring…  Is this the redneck version of Stonehenge?

And on top of that mystery… WORM HOLES…

worm holesAll over the place.  Carol’s sister is not quite bright on things that are not logical. She came into the living room and asked if we’d seen all those little brown mounds all over and wondering what made them… I looked her straight in the eye and told her they are wormholes…  Really?  Yep… when we get a chunk floater  the worms dig up to the surface so they won’t drown underground… If it’s a toad strangler they have to learn to swim.

I think she thinks I make this shit stuff up but with Carol sitting there and not saying, “Oh, Helen!!!” she realizes that I’m telling the truth…  at least about this.

  1. ok, the "ring of 'rooms" is pretty weird. I don't think I have seen that many worm holes in one place before. Are they good for fishin'?

  3. The mushroom ring is called a fairy ring. I'll have to look up information on that. But I've seen it before.
Yep, those worms will drown if they don't surface. Just like the red ants around here.

  5. Amy... any worms are good for fishing.

Ronda we do have to make our own fun sometimes, don't we!

Becky I don't recall ever knowing that, but when I left with my brother earlier after I'd posted that's what he told me and then it rang a bell. I told him if no one told me that when we got home I'd ad to my post... Thank you, ma'am!

Oh, wow, Tipper. I'm going to have to go read about it. I knew I was excited to find it. I'm glad it is special... it makes me feel good to share special things.

  6. Strange ring of mushrooms. Have you heard any strange noises at night when the aliens landed? :)

  7. Only in YOUR yard! Yep, Sass, it's definitely weird. But pretty amazing, too. How in the world did the form a circle like that? I'd love a scientific explanation for this.

  8. Evansmom - yes I have heard strange noises at night but I figured it was some rednecks having a good time... but then, maybe they were having a good time with the aliens.

Robynn as you saw from Becky and Tipper's comments it is a fairy ring and it is a very special find. In googling I found out that I shouldn't go out at night and sit in the middle of the ring for if I go to sleep and sleep until dawn the fairy ring of mushrooms will never come back... Frankly I hadn't thought about doing that because with the rain we've had the mosquitoes are about to eat me up. Evidently they are more common in Scotland and Wales and Great Britain. I wouldn't mind going there to look for them.

  10. Okay Helen,
I am making a trip to your place. Obviously, the stonehenge is being rebirthed at your place and I want to be a part of it!

Now seriously, if you drank tea from the mushrooms growing in a circle and you found yourself hanging by a henge from your roof, I'd dare to say this is the real modern stonehenge coming to life!

    Whattaya think?
    I think I just made a funny!

  14. How cool that you have your very own Redneck Stonehenge Fairy Ring!!
BUT... I've heard that if you go out at night and danced nekkid in the circle, your dearest wish will come true.

Let us know if you try it.
    Pics not necessary! ;-)

  15. Oh wow! A Fairy Ring! You are so lucky. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the fairies that danced at night, creating the rings. She told me stories of witches too. She warned me that if I ever saw such a ring, I was not to go inside it or I might never get out. Apparently you can run around it - nine times. I am not sure what that's supposed to do. Oh, and all those worm castings - they're really good for the garden!
