Simple Saturday...

I guess that back in the day they thought lard kept things moving...

Don't you know that the Surgeon General would have a conniption fit if there was an ad like this in today's magazines.

Or maybe they were just happier back then because they didn't have a clue to what things like lard did to their arteries.

They ate what they liked, had a good time and then keeled over.

Simpler times...

  3. And even though they ate lard, they were thinner (at least for the most part).

The thought of eating lard makes me feel sick.

    Hilarious post!

  4. LMAO!
The funny thing is, that even though they ate lard, they didn't sit around on their arses all day - and they stayed active.

I grew up with dripping on bread and never had a weight problem or cholesterol problem until I got a job that had me sitting on my arse all day.

So is it the lard or fat...or the lack of activity? Which came first? The chicken, or the egg?

  5. Well, I don't know about lard, but if it's fried or has butter, it's probably better, even if not better for you, don't you think? heh.

  6. Helen, what a hoot you are!! I remember those cans of lard. My mom cooked with it. She doesn't now, but I grew up on fried chicken, etc as I am from the south. I sure would like to relive some of those good ole days!! Thanks for the blast from the past!!

    God Bless~

  7. I long for the simple times. I wonder if they had lard back in the 1800's? Surely they did. I also think they managed to survive because they worked from sun up to sun down. We do sit way too much! Well, I do..LOL

Reminded me of my Nanny...God rest her soul :)

  8. I know I'm happier when I eat lard - or at least cook with it. Sad that it's so bad for you.

  9. Okay Helen, now you gotta hear THIS! They have discovered that LARD is actually not nearly as bad for you as they once thought. WAY better than fake margarine spreads, etc! And because of this, greenies and environmentalists are snapping up good organic lard so fast you can hardly get your hands on it. (I have to say, it's not that same crap you get in a little block at the store.) I buy mine from a gal named Mother Linda on the internet.

    OH.MY.GOOD.GRIEF.

Food cooked in this tastes TOO good. Disclaimer: this comment does NOT go along with my recent post. :)

  10. I just discovered your blog today and love what I have read.
And isn't it funny that the models on that Lard advertisement look like Barbie and Ken. . . .
there is something to eating too much and then sitting all day. . .
