There’s Thieving Going On…

And I caught the perpetrator on camera.  Yep, there’s no denying that there is a thief in the neighborhood…

The culprit The culprit… two-toned brown suit, flippy tail, little beady eyes…

The target The target… the sunflower feeder right outside my bedroom window.

Checking it out Casing the joint… looking out for hidden cameras, cats, dogs and/or people with guns…

Here he comes Here he comes…

Dropping in Dropping in…

Squirrel and other stuff 026 He quickly sets about stuffing his face, trying to blend in but not doing a good enough job for this ace detective.

Who me This is an actual photo taken during the theft by this intrepid reporter.  If you spot this arch (and fast) criminal DO NOT attempt to apprehend.  He may be armed toothed and dangerous.  Report him to authorities and you might be the one to receive a reward…

Fried squirrel with mashed potatoes and squirrel gravy.  Mmmmm.  Aren’t you glad you stopped by this Sunday!

Aren't they just the cleverest little critters! Great photos!

We had a squirrel last summer that figured out a way NOT to trip the weight sensitive bird feeders. He would climb up the metal pole, and hang upside down from the curved arm holding the feeder. The only thing touching the feeder was his hungry little face.

I had fried squirrel growing up also, Ronda. My mom sure knew how to fry them up right.

Sara they never fail to fascinate and amaze me with their antics. Anybody that thinks they are just dumb critters has never seen them solve problems such as weight sensitive feeders...

Great photos and a fun post! We have tried to make the bird feeder squirrel proof, but all has failed. So now I just put up with them. Never thought to fry them up though. Guess I'm not hungry enough.

They make me so angry when they get into a bird feeder, but they're pretty amazing athletes, aren't they?

They can be a pain in the arse, but you have to admit that they're clever little critters!
My Old Guy is still talking about the one that had a nest (just off my sons' porch) and how we had to tip-toe around so the mama squirrel wouldn't be disturbed and stop sitting on the squirrel eggs.
Yup, he still believes it! Bad me!!!

Fried squirrel? {{shudders}} But far better than possum anyway... URRRRRP!

Hetty my mom and dad were both raised in the country and my mom's family especially was in pretty hardscrabble area out in the Texas panhandle. They supplemented their meals with squirrel, rabbit, quail and whatever else they could shoot. My big brother (who will be 79 this year)still remembers visiting my grandparents in the summers and grandmother sending him out with a single shot .22 and one bullet. If he got something that was on the dinner table. If not, likely it was beans and cornbread. Fried up right it tastes kinda like fried chicken.

Caution my folks like to watch them playing chase in the back yard while they were eating at the breakfast table in the kitchen. The dang squirrels would chase each other along the SIDE of the brick garage and were always trying to get to the bird feeder that dad had hung on the clothes line. They were really acrobats!

Katie they are smart... and can get into the least little holes. My brother and s.i.l. in Ft. Worth that I go visit a lot cut down a tree next to their home because it afforded easy access to such a spot. Then the squirrels would start playing chase in the attic at all hours of the night. Made for poor sleeping some nights.

Oh, yeah, Katie... I've never had any inclination to try 'possum or armadillo (Southern 'possum on the half shell)... they just look too yuck. But I do love good catfish and they eat crap out of the bottom of the ponds or lakes so go figure!

WoW, I think you missed your calling or have found a new calling...Private Detective ... too cute and funny. We had to squirrel proof ours because of those thiefs!! Poor lil birdies were getting nothing but shells.
