It Takes Attitude…

I was going to write about my favorite Christmas but ran across this photo and it changed my mind… because it made me smile and I wanted to share this story with you all.

BTG mohawk back This is my baby brother. Mom told Walter (Bro) to take Bennett to the barber shop and get him a haircut so he would look nice for his birthday.

BTG with mohawk Walter told the barber to give Ben a mohawk.  I don’t know if Ben told Bro he wanted one or if Bro just told the barber to give him a mohawk.   But this is how Bro and Ben walked home.  Mom about stroked out.  But, dang, he was so cute that she forgave Walter.

BTG and teddy bear 1953 What’s not to love with a kid with a mohawk and a BIG teddy bear? Check out the boots, too.

BTG in Indian Drag Then I got in on the action… our sis, Sue, had a glorious array of neck scarves that were the rage in the early Fifties.  Ben and I decided that he had a mohawk so he ought to be dressed up like an Indian and who better to help him than moi? If you click the pic you can see our sister standing behind the chair.  She was so mad at us for getting in her stuff,  but she still had a bit of a smile trying to peek out.

Now you may ask, “What’s the deal with it taking attitude?”  Bro and I were talking about it when we were looking at these as he was scanning these photos and he’s the one that said, “You know it takes attitude to wear a mohawk.”  And this was the particular photo that brought about that comment:

BTG mohawk attitude. (2) The boy had the stuff to pull it off.  Check out the suit coat and the jive attitude. Ben, Bro and I still love this photo and as far as we are concerned even now with you being 61 you could still pull off a mohawk.  You still have what it takes.

Love you, Baby Bro, and I’ll see you and all your family  for Christmas.

Sara I didn't even know about some of these photos until a month or so ago when my baby brother got his hands on it and let me and Bro bring it back so we could scan them. We are trying to get photos that all of our sibs latched on to over the years. The ones we have so far are a small portion and so we are trying to get them, scan them and return originals to those who wished to keep them. Bennett was the baby of the family and I was the one before him so there are probably more of us than the other four but we do have lots of them also.

Hey Hetty! We all have some attitude. I think it's a blessing from being watched over growing up by not only our parents but also our older sibs and all the neighbors. Back in the day we knew we could have fun and it was a lot nicer to have good fun than to get caught in mischief but at least we were allowed to learn from our adventures, good and those not so bright.

This is wonderful! You need to do more posts like this.
We get into our 60's and the years from being children get further and further away. These memories are priceless and the relationship with your brothers is too.
Attitude is everything. It's what makes you believe you can do things. Attitude keeps you going. I think you have a ton of it.

That is a great picture! What personality!

Pearl

p.s. There are many fine reasons to live in Minnesota in the winter. :-) And just as soon as I think of them, I'll let you know!

He's definitely got Mojo. So does his sister. Those photos are darling but that last one is the prize winner. So glad you guys are still so close - and crazy - after all these years. :)

So cute!
I am so glad that someone took pictures.
My family picks at me because I'm always taking pictures, but there will come a time when we will sit back and enjoy them, just as you and your family are with these pictures.

Farmlady you are right. I have so much fun putting these memories out there. I knew that Bennett and Diane were fixing brunch for at least two of his boys yesterday so I called and told him he needed to show the post to the boys. I know that they hadn't seen some of these pics so it was great fun.

Pearl I really shouldn't be so hard on you about Minnesota... The best zoo I've ever been to is the one you all have and there are some really beautiful places in your state. I just don't understand how you deal with the COLD and ass deep (or more) snow for as long as you have to... your winters are longer than Oklahoma summers I think. Thanks for stopping by and glad you liked the picture.

I don't know what I'd have done, Robynn, without having strong ties with my family. I would have sure missed a bunch of crazy fun. And it has sure been a help to me lately to be able to see some of these old photos and remember the stories behind them.

JoJo my whole batch of sibs can put the attitude out there, but only in fun ways. My sis Sue is probably the quietest of us but she can put the zingers out when she feels it necessary. We all have a mess of fun when we get together.

Becky, take lots of pictures. With digital cameras now it is so much less expensive than back in the day when they had to be developed. We were fortunate that mom and dad both enjoyed the recording of our lives with photographs. When you get older, when the kids get older you'd be surprised what joy and comfort and memories the old photos bring back to mind.

TrainWreck!!! So glad to see you again. And to tell the truth, you are right. He was trying to figure out to sit down or had just gotten up and it was just one of those incredibly lucky shots that you can make into a good story. Thanks for the shout out!

Ros I bet as good looking as your sons were and are, if you looked at photos of your boys at 4 or 5 and imagined them with a mohawk they probably would have been cute... I mean if you took a look at the military cuts and imagined it burred up a bit further... Momma thought it was cute after she got over the shock, but she made sure that Walter didn't take him to the barber again. lol

Terry I love you to death girl... anybody that remembers Davy Crockett, Red Ryder and Little Beaver, Hopalong Cassidy, Tex Ritter... you're my kind of gal and grew up in my time. Happy Trails to you and lots of wonderful Buttermilk Skies...

Laura I bet a mohawk would look good on that handsome grandson of yours when he gets more hair.

Thanks Karen we all thought he was a cutie... being the baby all of us kind of adored him.
